Lot Essay

This is an excellent example of the wayang style. In the Mahabharata epic, there is a fight between the Korawas and the Pandawas. Nakula and Sahadewa, the twins pictured here, belong to the Pandawa family. They are mysterious and know neither sorrow nor joy. They remain timid in the shadow of the others and have no need for companions or guides. In the wayang stories they are the administrators of the kingdom and also practise medicine. Despite the fact that they have godly fathers, they are inconspicious and are seen as shadows in the wayang world.
