A Darbar with Jahangir in Lucknow

With Jahangir seated barefoot on a golden throne over a rich red carpet on a marble parapet, dressed in regional Lucknowi dress of a sheer white angarkha with gold details over a white jama and tied with a golden sash, adorned in elaborate pearl jewelry and his hair tied in a low turban, surrounded by standing courtiers in similar dress and with four seated wisemen in different dress, the darbar hall decorated with green and gold banners, with additional figures below standing outside and wearing elaborate shoes and jamas, carrying various implements of music and defense, every figure with an inscription

Lot Essay

Amongst the figures identified in this painting is Mian Tansen, the famous musician from Akbar's court, at lower left holding an instrument. The architecture at left is only outlined, indicating that this work is probably unfinished.
