All three illustrating battle scenes, the first with Bhishma lying on his bed of arrows, with Arjun guided by Krishna and left and Duryodhan at right; the second with Arjun and Krishna opposing Karna at top, Sahadev and Nakul fighting Samasatpak at center, and Bheem clashing with Rajyadha below; and the third with two men in armor engaged in combat, while their fellow soldiers stand at the ready

Lot Essay

In the first painting, the woman standing at Bhishma's feet may be Draupadi, wife of the Pandavas, or more likely Shikhandi, the woman who assisted Arjun in defeating the great warrior.
