A rare bronze figure of Manjushri
Indonesia, Central Java, 10th Century
Seated and holding his manuscript in his left hand, his sword held aloft in his right hand, wearing a long dhoti secured with a belt, adorned with multiple bracelets, earrings and necklace, the face with raised urna and the hair drawn up into a high chignon centered with Amitabha and secured with a circlet with diminutive figure of Buddha, the reverse of the hair similarly detailed

Lot Essay

This is a remarkable bronze for its bold presence and relatively large size.
