Contemporary mottled calf, preserving marbled wrappers (re-backed and re-cornered, endpapers renewed). Provenance: contemporary shelf-mark on inside rear wrapper -- The Alpine Club (stamp and inscription).

FIRST EDITION. A fundamental work in ice mechanics. Bordier was first to describe ice as fluid and to explain the movement of glaciers towards the plain. Meckly 23.
