a collection of medals and related miniatures awarded to Harbord, comprising: Polar medal, bronze, Edward VII, with clasp 'ANTARCTIC 1907-09', incused 'A.E. HARBORD SECOND OFFICER NIMROD' on the rim, white riband (new, original preserved), 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, and Victory Medal, the three war medals incused 'LIEUT A.E. HARBORD. R.N., together with their four related miniatures
together with a typed letter signed ('EH Shackleton') to 'Harboard' [sic], London, 5 October 1909, on BAE 1907 headed paper, 1 page, 4to ('... You served on board the "Nimrod" first as Auxiliary 2nd Officer, later as 2nd Officer, and still later as Chief ... my own observations have shown me how well you have conducted yourself at all times under circumstances of peculiar discomfort, and when there was necessity for quick action ...')
