Java Naar Schilderijen en Teekeningen van A. Salm...op steen gebracht door J. C. Greive, Jr. Amsterdam: Frans Buffa & Zonen, [1865-1872].
Large 2° (511 x 385mm). Title-page printed in red and black, list of plates on verso, 24 chromolithographic plates printed on thick paper and mounted on card, hand-finished with colour and heightened with gum arabic, printed captions and imprints affixed to margins. Publisher's gilt-lettered brown cloth, (rebacked in modern red morocco, spine rubbed).
RARE FIRST EDITION of one of only three sumptuous plate books on Indonesia published by Buffa. Salm's twenty-nine years in Indonesia resulted in many highly dramatic landscape paintings, twenty-four of which were chromolithographed for this work by Greive.
