CHATEAU CANON
Château Canon in Fronsac, currently managed by the ever talented Christian Moueix of Pétrus, remains one of the most venerable vineyards in the appellation. The property is situated in the center of the great clay-limestone slope of Canon. Production of this microscopic 3.5 acre plot produces approximately six tons of a concentrated and refined wine whose quality is derived from its old vines, its exceptional situation and the balance of its clonal variety. The wines of Château Canon are looked after like those in a very great growth, laid down in oak barrels and aged twenty months before bottling. 100 Merlot, harvested by hand.
Château Canon--Vintage 1982
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé
Levels: Bottom neck
"An amber edge to this wine's dark garnet/ruby color suggests approaching maturity. A fragrant, sweet nose of minerals, cherry jam, smoke, earth, cedar, and vanilla is enticing. Medium to full-bodied, with fabulously sweet fruit, a viscous texture, yet vibrant underlying acidity as well as surprising tannin and length, this is the greatest Canon produced over the last thirty years. Anticipated maturity: now-2015." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #129 (June 2000)
