"The bottle in this tasting departed somewhat from my recent experience. The color was bricked through with only a small remaining core of ruby with a wonderfully spicy nose of sous bois, leather, earth and a hint of smoke that leads to delicious, sweet and fully mature flavors, all wrapped in a lacy finish that is just now beginning to thin out as there is just a touch of acidity poking through. Based on this bottle one would rightly conclude that the '78 Bonnes Mares is just now beginning a graceful decline. 91/now. (Note however that several other recent bottles displayed the same bricking colors but much fresher noses with rich, full, intense and deep flavors that still possessed a minor amount of unresolved tannins. Overall, my experience with this wine is that is remains impressive, long and altogether stunning in its intensity, elegance, richness and sheer palate impact, indeed it's a first-class stunner that should hold for years.
