The circular glass top decorated with a central putto on a shell boat being pulled by doves, within a red and floral-gilt framework, the frieze inlaid with paterae and on a columnar-form support and tripartite base ending in paw sabots, bearing a paper label printed and inscribed 'SYPHER & CO. New York. 150 ...' and another paper label inscribed '92 76'

Lot Essay

This elegant gueridon reputedly formed part of the collection of the parents of Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, subsequently Mrs. John F. Kennedy, the First Lady of the United States. The Bouvier family divided their time between New York City and East Hampton, Long Island.
