Lot Essay

The distinctively ruffled frame of this spectacular mirror is typical of the work of Spanish carvers in the 1740's and 1750's. Spanish consoles with similar ruffled carving are illustrated in L. Feduchi, Estilos del Mueble Español, Barcelona, 1969, fig. 280, p. 195, and J. Mainar, El Moble Català, Barcelona, 1976, p. 140 (subsequently sold from Ca'n Puig and Castillo de Bendinat, Mallorca, Christie's House Sale, 24-5 May 1999, lots 351-2).
