Lot Essay

The Mosque of Aytmish al-Bagazi is a 14th Century Mamluk amir that is situated on a street that branches down from the Citadel in Cairo. Richter's view is rendered with great accuracy except for the added green coloring to the dome which is an artistic embellishment.

We are grateful to Caroline Williams for identifying the monuments in the work.
