ON A DOMED OCTAGONAL BASE CHASED AND MOULDED WITH A BAND OF FOLIAGE AND CHERUBS, FOLIATE AND CORDED BANDS ABOVE, THE OCTAGONAL BODY ENGRAVED WITH THE ANNUNCIATION, THE ADORATION AND THE FLIGHT TO EGYPT, SEPARATED BY THE APOSTLES MATTHEW, MARK, LUKE AND JOHN IN OVAL CARTOUCHES FLANKED BY STRAPWORK AND FOLIAGE, WITH A VACANT CARTOUCHE AND WITH TWO PIERCED SCROLL HANDLES, THE UNDERSIDE LATER-ENGRAVED WITH INITIALS AND A DATE 1841 - 22CM WIDE OVERALL (318GR)

THIS BRANDY BOWL WAS GIVEN AS A CHRISTENING PRESENT BY KING LEOPOLD OF SAXEN COBURG OF BELGIUM TO HIS GODCHILD LEOPOLD RICHARD SEYMOUR, ACCORDING TO THE INITIALS AND DATE ON THE UNDERSIDE. THE CHILD'S FATHER, SIR GEORGE HAMILTON SEYMOUR, WAS APPOINTED BRITISH ENVOY EXTRAORDINARY TO THE BELGIAN COURT IN 1836.
