Lot Essay

There is an 18th century fo-dog carpet of the same colouring in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, whose design reportedly became the prototype for many later examples, (H. A. Lorentz, A View of Chinese Rugs, Haarlem, 1973, pl.46, p.91).
