The inner band of the inscription reads: man ayqana bi'l-khalaf jadahu al-'atiyya (sic.),(He who believes in what follows will excel in generosity). The outer band reads: wa qala al-jud min akhlaq ahl al-janna, (And he said: Generosity is a disposition of the dwellers of Paradise). Both of these proverbs are attributed to the Imam 'Ali.

While both these sayings are found on a number of bowls, it is very unusual to find two of them together on one bowl. Even more unusual is the irregular cusping of the rim. This must be an attempt to copy the Chinese forms which must have been well-known and prized in Iran at the time.

A thermoluminescence test performed by Oxford Authentication, sample no. N107z39 on 26 July 2007 is consistent with the suggested dating.
