Lot Essay

On the basis of an almost identical Qur'an section in Shiraz that bears an endowment notice in the name of Jalal al-Din Mas'ud ibn 'Ala' al-Din Muhammad and is dated AH [8]74/1469-70 AD, James attributes the Qur'an from which this manuscript comes also to Shiraz (David James, The Master Scribes, Oxford 1992, p. 140)

Leaves from the same Qur'an were in these Rooms, 23 April 2002, lot 6 and 14 October 2003, lot 2. Another leaf is in the collection of Nasser D. Khalili (James, op. cit., 1992, no. 32, pp. 140-1).
