SOUTH INDIA, FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURY
The bezel with a central raised square panel with inset ruby forming the centre of a rosette with alternating large turquoise and small ruby petals, applied to a wide flat hoop with upper and lower beaded edges, a similar smaller applied quatrefoil linked by inset shaped panels along the mid-line

Lot Essay

A very similar ring is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (Susan Stronge, Nima Smith and J. C. Harle, A Golden Treasury, exhibition catalogue, London, 1988, no.103, p.97). That ring was acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum from the collection of Alessandro Castellani in 1872.
