Lot Essay

The present lot was bought together with its pair "Ecce Homo", at the legendary sale of the Figdor collection sold by Paul Cassirer in Berlin. The Figdor collection encompassed a very wide range of disciplines, including sculpture, furniture, metalwork, textiles paintings and works of art from the middle ages to the renaissance (see fig.1).
The pair to this panel was sold in The Frits Philips Collection, Sotheby's Eindhoven, 4-5 November 2006, lot 483.
