Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1947
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A). Belgian bottled by Vandermeulen
Good capsules. Dusty and bin-soiled labels. Lots 4 and 5 levels into neck, lot 6 level base of neck and lot 7 level just below base of neck
Tasting note: These, mostly dependable, Vandermeulen bottlings come up in the saleroom frequently enough to warrant comments. Three notes, first in 1977, flavoury but acidic; next in 1995, impressive, rich, good fruit, also slightly acidic. Most recently an excellent bottle, good level: very deep, intense; gentle yet rich, slightly tangy nose; very good flavour, balance and condition. Last tasted March 2003. At best **** M.B.
