Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1964
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A)
Bin-soiled labels, Whitwhams slip labels. Lot 307 slight signs of seepage. Level upper-shoulder. Lot 308 signs of seepage, corroded capsule. Level mid/low-shoulder
Tasting note: Picked between 22 September and 9 October. One of the loveliest of all the '64s. Fine and fruity cask sample and steady, invariably pleasant development, 'full, soft, velvety, stylish and rounded' in 1973. Then a well-nigh perfect bottle: harmonious, à point, dry finish at Hugh Johnson's Bordeaux Club dinner, December 2001. M.B.
