Lot Essay

Known as the 'Billinge' chair, this model was made in the Lancashire towns of Billinge and Wigan. The armchairs are particularly distinctive with the buttoned toprail and the outswept arm peculiar to this model. For a full discussion of this tradition see Dr. B. Cotton, The English Regional Chair, Woodbridge, 1990, Pages 386 - 389
