Lot Essay
The above hand-made dishes, made of a course, iron-rich clay, are known as kawarake. They are decorated with Korin-style patterns, each with a different motif - a concept known as egawari. The notion of irregular sets was known since the fourteenth century, when it was praised by Yoshida Kenko in his essay tsurezuregusa (Essays in Idleness).
