2° (298 x 192mm). 412 leaves (of 416, lacking ff. 368-371). Title within elaborate woodcut border, full-page woodcut, and engraved vignettes throughout. (The first two leaves window-mounted with some loss, repairs, Dd6 and Ee1 supplied partly in facsimile, dampstains.) 17th-century calf (re-cased, spine-head repaired, front endpaper renewed, buckling). Provenance: Antonii, Troitse Sergieva Monastyria Iegumen (contemporary inscription).

FIRST EDITION of this collection of Baranovich's popular sermons. Baranovich, archbishop of Chernigov, was one of the key figures of Kievan literature of the time and an influence on Dmitrii of Rostov. His sacred oratory adopted the forms of classical rhetoric and was strongly in favour of the union of Little and Greater Russia. Both Petrov and Pozdeeva note that although two variants of the title are know, they are identical in every way. Petrov 251; Pozdeeva 576; Sopikov 1566 ('rare').
