Lot Essay

Williamson Engleheart (loc. cit.) record that Lady Clayton sat to Engleheart in 1800. It is possible that the present sitter is Lady Louisa Fermor (d. 1809), daughter of Thomas Fermor, 1st Earl Pomfret (1698-1753), who married William Clayton (c. 1733-1783) on 24 September 1767 and had issue, George Clayton (1768-1828). Williamson Engleheart (loc. cit.) also mention that a Mr. Clayton sat for Engleheart in 1803.
