Lot Essay

The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by Mr J. van Roosmalen.

The present work from the collection of Benno Gitter is rare within Israels' oeuvre. Until the 1890's, Israels visited Paris regularly and in 1903 decided to live in the city permanently. He would remain there for the next ten years and depict girls at work in fashion houses, the Bois de Boulogne, the thriving nightlife and the horse races at Longchamps.
