Woven in wools and silks, depicting exotic birds in a wooded river landscape, within an elaborate pergola border decorated with allegorical figures, exotic birds and flower-filled vases between strapwork bands set with masks, the blue outer slip with Brussels town mark and remains of weaver's signature, and with initials 'MC' to the top, reduced in height by circa 6 in. folding along the lower edge of the field

Sale room notice
This tapestry is from a Collection formed in the 1950s under the guidance of the famous furniture historian, author and advisor R.W. Symonds (1889-1958). Some of this Collection was sold at Christie's London 24 November 2005, lots 80-93. It is likely that R.W. Symonds was responsible for the purchase of this lot.
