The elderly figure of the High Priest, shown half-length, with grey, dishevelled hair and a long beard, supporting Christ with his left forearm and right, veiled hand, the Child represented in a contrapostal pose, turning back to look at Symeon directly in the eyes, his right leg uncovered, the white scroll held by Christ and his himation projecting against the dark colours of the rest of the composition
