Three cinnabar lacquer circular boxes and covers, 19th century
the first, carved at the top with scholars amidst rockwork under a willow tree framed by a key-fret border and petal panels also around the foot, the sides with cartouches carved with lotus, peony, prunus, chrysanthemum and hibiscus sprays reserved on a foliate floral ground; the second and third, similarly carved at the top with scholars and attendants in a mountainous river landscape, the sides with floral cartouches reserved on a leiwen ground, with key-fret borders around the top and the foot -- the largest 10 1/8in. (25.7cm.) diam. (3)
