A RARE FAMILLE ROSE AND GRISAILLE DECORATED OCTAGONAL WATERPOT
YONGZHENG PERIOD (1723-1735)

Each side delicately painted en grisaille with a different landscape scene, including a snow scene, all within moulded borders below formalised foliate sprays in famille rose enamels reserved on a yellow-ground on the very slightly domed shoulder, with a foliate diaper band encircling the shallow waisted neck, the interior of the neck, the eight bracket feet and the base applied with turquoise enamel

Lot Essay

No other waterpot of this facetted shape appears to have been published. This rare, elegant shape and unusual combination of grisaille and famille rose decoration usually seen on medallion-decorated graviata-ground bowls, make for a very rare decorative combination.
