FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed on front blank: "The Rev.d. Dr Holland with the respects & sincere regard of the author", with MANUSCRIPT POEM, SIGNED BY MAYO on rear blank with accompanying 5-line note. This is Mayo's final work on this subject. It "was begun as a physiological introduction for a reissue of the 1827 Engravings, but in the event the illustrations were not reprinted" (DSB).
