DODGSON, Charles Lutwidge (1832-1898). Autograph letter signed to 'Margaret', Christ Church, 9 November 1877, written in purple ink, 2½ pages, 12mo.
'It really is a great thing to get a book finished "while I have it so clear in my head", if I may venture to quote a modern poem'. Dodgson comments on the life of a writer ('I'm not hurting myself with work at present. It's nothing to what a lawyer does'), and offers to test out the 'Dictionary of Terms of Art'.
Written in the year Dodgson published his Memoria Technica, 'a significant improvement on Dr Richard Grey's system (1730) for memorizing dates and events, with which Dodgson must have struggled as a schoolboy' (ODNB).
