Lot Essay

Entered service in 1785 as under officer in the Semenovskii Regiment, took part in the Polish campaign 1792 and 1794, and the Swedish campaign of 1808-09, in the Great Fatherland War of 1812, when he was promoted major general and adjutant general to the Emperor, minister of war 1815-19, and elevated to count of the Russian Empire in 1819. In 1801 he married Anna, the daughter of Count Ivan Ivanovich Korsakov.
