Both transparent blue-green in color, free-blown, one with a pinched flaring foot, the tubular rim folded out, with a central pontil mark on the underside; and one with a nearly-flat base and vertical sides, on an applied ring foot

Lot Essay

For a similar example of the first bowl see no. 155 in Israeli, et al., Ancient Glass in the Israel Museum. The author notes that this type is common along the Coastal Plain and Western Galilee regions of Palestine.

For the second bowl see no. 113 in Stern, Roman, Byzantine and Early Medieval Glass, and no. 152 in Israeli, et al., op. cit., both Eastern Mediterranean in origin.
