The reference 3979 was launched in 1989 to celebrate Patek Philippe's 150th anniversary, and is the legitimate successor of the highly coveted reference 2524/1. Production of the reference 3979 was largely in yellow gold and was discontinued in 1998, succeeded by the reference 5079.
The ingenious calibre R 27 PS impresses not only by its remarkable 342 miniscure parts but also Patek Philippe's highly innovative technical milestone of combining a micro-rotor and minute repeating mechanism into a proportionally small 12 1/2"' lignes movement.
