Lot Essay

Trained at the Bauhaus Dessau 1931-1932 by Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, Bjerk-Petersen subsequently became a leading proponent of Surrealism, publishing his theories, based on those of André Breton, in 1934. The unique ceramics that he created for Rörstrand in the early 1950s illustrate his painterly approach to color and form.
