AN INSCRIPTION AND A MATHEMATICAL EQUATION, written on this pleasing image of Einstein in his prime, gray hair tousled, wearing starched collar and a double-breasted cloth coat, a pipe curls out from under his thick black moustache. It is signed and inscribed at the top left: "Mr. F. M. Brown Albert Einstein 1931." He evidently could not resist using the free space on the top right of the photo to scribble six lines of mathematical equations. Brown was a California violin dealer with whom Einstein became acquainted during his 1931 stay in America, where he taught at the California Institute of Technology. Together 4 items. (4)
