Lot Essay

In 1956 HRH Prince Philip invited Seago to join him on his World Tour in Her Majesty's Yacht, Britannia. Seago's journey began at the Melbourne Olympics which HRH Prince Philip had opened, and the yacht travelled through Antartica and the South Atlantic onto West Africa. Seago produced sixty oils during the two month tour which spanned from 15 December 1956 to 21 February 1957 (see J. Reid, Edward Seago The Landscape Art, London, 1991, pp. 220-225).
