A LARGE LATE 19TH CENTURY RUSSIAN SILVER-GILT THRONE SALT,
MARK OF IVAN CHLEBNIKOV, MOSCOW, 1883,
With engraved Pan-Slavic decoration, Cyrillic rhyme on cover translating as "Without salt & without bread, it's only half a meal", further inscription inside cover & date "1884", monogrammed cartouche to chair-back, the latter with cut-out zig-zag edge, 4¼ in. high (11 cm.), 9.75 oz.
