Lot Essay

The geometric pattern repeated on both the grip and the scabbard is typical of the 18th century. See a cloisonné Fangding from Qianlong reign, entirely decorated with identical motifs, illustrated in H. Brinker and A. Lutz, Chinesisches Cloisonné - Die Sammlung Pierre Uldry, Museum Rietberg, Zurich 1985, pl.242.
