David depicted standing astride a cuirass and shield, and holding a stone in his left hand and the remains of the sling in his right; on an integrally cast base inscribed to the reverse with the monogram 'LD'; medium brown patina with lighter high points; minor dents and abrasions

Lot Essay

The monogram 'LD' on the base of the present bronze has not been identified to date. Although Laruent Delvaux is known to have executed examples of the David in marble and terracotta (see Jacobs, loc. cit.), he is not principally known to have worked in bronze.
