Lot Essay

Number 43 in Mene's catalogue, Djinn, Etalon Barbe, or as it's perhaps better known, Cheval a la Barriere, was first shown at the 1849 Salon. The current example is cast without the fencing found at the back of the base on the original. See Jane Horswell, Les Animaliers, 1971, p.155.
