For a similar teabowl and saucer formerly in the Otto and Magdalena Blohm Collection, see Robert Schmidt, Early European Porcelain as Collected by Otto Blohm (Munich, 1953), no. 107, which was later sold by Sotheby's London on 10th October 1961, lot 681. Other examples include one from the Jacques Müsam Collection, Berlin, sold by Glückselig, Vienna, in April 1925, lot 474, and another formerly in the Margarete Oppenheim Collection, Berlin, sold by Julius Böhler, Munich, on 18th-20th May 1936, lot 930, and possibly again by Christie's Geneva on 10th November 1986, lot 203. An armorial teabowl and saucer from the Schiff von Suvero Collection (with Turbanned figures) was sold in these Rooms on 7th May 2003, lot 38.
The inspiration for these subjects was almost certainly derived from the prints by Petrus Schenk the Elder and his imitators. This small group of wares have been attributed to various Hausmalern; Preissler and Dannhofer have been suggested, but a convincing attribution has still to be put forward. See Hermann Jeddig, 'Porzellan aus der Sammlung Blohm', Catalogue (Hamburg, 1968), no. 119 for a teabowl and saucer painted in a similar manner with European scenes inspired by David Teniers, which the author attributes to Carl Ferdinand von Wolfsburg.
