A MEISSEN SILVER-MOUNTED TANKARD
THE PORCELAIN CIRCA 1735, THE SILVER 18TH CENTURY, MARK OF IIK, PROBABLY SCANDINAVIAN
Painted in the manner of Johann Gottfried Klinger with a bouquet of flowers tied with a red ribbon among ombrierte Insektenmalerei, below a brown-line rim, the strap handle with forget-me-nots and a moulded acanthus leaf terminal, the hinged cover gadrooned and reserved with rococo scroll cartouches, inset with a portrait medallion of Catherine II of Russia, dated 1755 to the underside, below the tooled initials and date Fa.J.S·A.A.D·1778, the thumbpiece formed as a crowned lion and ball (some minor flaking to enamels on handle, faint surface glaze crack to interior base)
