Lot Essay

Francesco I, King of the Two Sicilies (1777-1830), standing on the terrace at Caserta, is wearing the order of Saint Esprit, the badge and star of Saint Januarius and the Order of Saint George of the Reunion. In the background is a statue of Homer. His wife, Isabella, daughter of Charles IV of Spain, wears a white dress and lace fichu and stands by a circular centre table in the style of the Roman revival, with griffin monopaedia supported by a plinth base.
