COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:
H.M. Vehmeyer, Clocks, Their Origin and Development 1320-1880 Vol.I, Gent, 2004, pp.334-335
Dr R Plomp, Spring-driven Dutch Pendulum Clocks 1657-1710, Schiedam, 1979, pp.92-93, fig.15, p.126, fig.43, and p.152, fig.64
Little is known about Willem Stampioen other than that he was working in Rotterdam in 1698.
'Hague' clocks with astronomical features such as moonphase are rare. Plomp and Vehmeyer both illustrate an example by Jan van Leeuwarden which shows date and moonphase with age of moon. Plomp also shows a clock by Ahasuerus Fromanteel with arched moonphase (fig.43) and an exceptional red tortoiseshell clock by van Ceulen with full calendar and moonphase.
