A Charles II ebony and brass-mounted striking table clock with pull quarter repeat

The case with repoussé basket top and cast brass urn finials, short glazed side panels with brass sound frets above, later (?) brass mounts to front door rails, the stepped and moulded base raised on brass bun feet, the 16.5 cm. (6½ in.) square brass dial with winged cherub mask spandrels to silvered chapter ring signed Daniel Quare London, trident half hour markers, matted centre, replaced steel hands, with strike/silent lever above XII, the eight day movement secured with bolts through the baseboard, with seven ringed pillars, twin gut fusees, restored verge escapement, hour strike on bell and pull quarter repeat on three further bells via substantial curved steel lever to the front plate, the back plate with scored line border and engraved with thistles and scrolls around a vacant cartouche, Quare-type engraved brass click springs and later heart-shaped apron; case key

The vacant cartouche on the present clock is unusual but the cartouche itself -- down to the click springs overlapping its edges -- may be compared to a Quare clock in the Vehmeyer collection, which also has similar dial and case features.
