Lot Essay

Brienz was a well known centre of woodcarving in the second half of the 19th Century. In 1862 the Drawing and Modelling School of Brienz was founded and became the centre of the Brienz carving industry. This school enabled carvers to work in an orderly fashion and make original and high quality creations.
