Lot Essay

Written on the reverse is:
'This is very nice indeed/especially the figure with the lamp'

These words imply that this was done by a pupil, to a glowing tribute from their master. The work is reminiscent of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, from which the artist was obviously influenced.
