A sheet of studies of standing, seated and reclining figures and the Madonna and Child seated (recto), Saint Margaret and other figures (verso)

Nancy Ward Neilson relates this sheet to a group of drawings of similar dimensions with similar inscriptions which suggests a shared early provenance (Ward Neilson 1979, op. cit. pp. 280-81). A drawing by Procaccini at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. (Ward Neilson 1979 op. cit., pls. 48 and 49) and one sold at Christie's, London, 23 February 1951 are both numbered '64' in black chalk, in the same handwriting as the '63' on the present sheet. The drawing sold at Christie's in 1951 and another one in the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest (Ward Neilson 1979 op. cit, pls. 44b and 45a) are both inscribed 'Pro No' like the present sheet. The drawing in Budapest is a study for The Last Supper in SS. Annunziata in Genoa, painted circa 1620 which perhaps suggests a date for the present drawing. The figures do not appear to relate to any paintings by the artist.
