Lot Essay

This and the following two lots are comparable to a group of more than one hundred and sixty drawings that came from an album titled Sole figure per soffitti which was sold at Christie's London on 14 July 1914 (see G. Knox, Catalogue of the Tiepolo drawings in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1960, p. 5). It is difficult to associate these sheets with any specific project. They were more likely executed for their own sake.
